A planet that is about five times the size of earth was discovered a few years ago, and the carbon within it has crystallized into a diamond.

Diamonds although very beautiful and very dangerous to mine, are not actually rare. When interest in diamonds started to decline, a clever advertisement linking diamonds to romance gave the rock value and meaning. “A diamond is forever.” -Frances Gerety

Creating artificial diamonds has been known to us for a while now and experts have always been able to tell an artificial diamond apart from the real stuff. But a new technique was invented in creating diamonds. More about that here: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/diamonds-on-demand.html?c=y&page=1

Stop buying diamonds. They are a terrible investment and many people suffer and die because of the diamond’s artificial value. There is absolutely nothing romantic about a diamond.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_diamond
